The San Pellegrino World’s Best 50 Restaurants 2010 recognises Asia’s Best Restaurants
The Miele Guide Team would like to convey their heartiest congratulations to all the Asian restaurants that were ranked among the world’s 50 best restaurants this year.
Tokyo’s Les Creations de Narisawa, at number 24, is Asia’s highest ranked restaurant in this year’s survey. Asia’s second highest ranked restaurant is Iggy’s, from Singapore, which was ranked by The Miele Guide 20009/2010 as Asia’s second best restaurant. Iggy’s placed at number 28 in the World’s Best 50 Restaurants list this year. Jaan Par Andre is a new entrant to the World’s Best 50 list and comes in at an astoundingly high 39th position. This Singapore-based restaurant, helmed by Chef Andre Chiang, made a similarly spectacular debut at number 4 in The Miele Guide’s ranking last year. Nihonryori RyuGin from Japan has also made it into the top world’s top 50, at number 48. All four restaurants are featured in The Miele Guide 2009/2010.
We would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate the ten other restaurants from The Miele Guide that made it into the San Pellegrino list (51st to 100th position) – L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon (Hong Kong), Wasabi by Morimoto (India), Robuchon A Galera (Macau), Lung King Heen (Hong Kong), Bo Innovation (Hong Kong), Les Amis (Singapore), Gunther’s (Singapore), Quintessence (Japan), Amber (Hong Kong) and Cepage by Les Amis (Hong Kong). It is no coincidence that many of The Miele Guide’s highest ranked restaurants have captured international attention and are now making their way up the rankings of The San Pellegrino World’s 50 Best Restaurants list and other such surveys. Voting for The Miele Guide 2010/2011 edition is underway and will run through to 19 May 2010. We urge you to vote for your favorite restaurants in Asia. Every vote counts. Do vote now at www.mieleguide.com/voting.
The Miele Guide 2009/2010 Launches at Star Studded Gala Dinner
The 2009/2010 edition of The Miele Guide was officially launched on 30 September 2009 at a red-carpet extravaganza at The Fullerton Hotel Singapore. In front of a select, celebrity-studded crowd of some of Asia’s most celebrated chefs and restaurateurs, as well as regional and international food critics and journalists, Asia’s Top 20 Restaurants were announced and the staggering 450 restaurants that made into this year’s guide were revealed.
The 360 guests at this year’s gala dinner were lavishly fed by guest chefs Takashi Kimura (Sage Restaurant & Wine Bar, Kuala Lumpur), Rahul Akerkar (Indigo, Mumbai), Diego Martinelli (The Lighthouse, Singapore) and Janice Wong (2am:dessertbar, Singapore). Using the finest quality ingredients sponsored by Indoguna Singapore – widely recognised as one of the country’s leading purveyors of fine foods – and paired with an extraordinary selection of wines jointly sponsored by the Italian Trade Commission (I.C.E. – Istituto nazionale per il Commercio Estero) and the Italian Wine List, the four-course meal married the best of Asia’s rich culinary heritage with contemporary fine-dining sensibilities to create a feast that was truly Modern Asia.
For Asia’s Top 20 restaurants, there were custom-designed crystal trophies by renowned German glassmaker Zwiesel 1872. Conceived by designer Angelika Brig especially for The Miele Guide, each trophy was painstakingly handmade by artisanal glass-blowers to the most exacting standards of craftsmanship and artistry. And for the recipients of the Miele–At-Sunrice scholarship and the Miele–WSQ–At-Sunrice scholarship, they have earned the opportunity to attend the WSQ Diploma course in Culinary Arts at the renowned At-Sunrice Globalchef Academy.
